Our Vision
& Values
At Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council (WLALC), our vision and values are deeply grounded in the enduring culture, history, and aspirations of the Worimi people.
Everything we do is guided by a strong commitment to protecting land and heritage, and empowering our community for generations to come.
The WLALC is committed to improving, protecting and fostering the best interests of its members and all Aboriginal persons within the Council’s area.
Vision
Statement
Our vision is to be proud, active and independent in our lifestyle, living environment and cultural heritage through connection to land and each other, enhancing the values of our Aboriginal cultural identity and achieving financial independence and self-determination through the actions of the WLALC.
Values Statement
Our Aboriginal culture is a strong community based on strong family ties and believe this should be used for the development of cultural and personal pride and esteem.
There are many aspects of our culture which are beneficial to living in harmony with all people and these will be communicated and shared.
It is of paramount importance that we regain and restore our Culture, not to the exclusion of other cultures but, to give us the ability to connect to our past, be proud in our day, and be self-determinant in our future.
Respect given between people and we offer deep and abiding respect for the true Elders of our community.
That we exists to assist and improve the situation of all Aboriginal people not just its members.
That despite the hardships and tragedies visited on us by outsiders, we continue to focus and look towards the future with optimism and determination to guide our destiny.
Restitution for past wrongs is a legitimate expectation whether this be financial, political, or social and we embrace all our fellow human beings with forgiveness and a desire to work together for the betterment of all.
Financial success and sustainability is a means to provide the resources for the advancement of Aboriginal advocacy, community and culture however, we do not consider that financial success is a true achievement if it is isolated from the betterment of our community.
It is the responsibility of Aboriginal people to be actively involved and contributing to the betterment of their own health, education, and profile in the Australian society.
Building our Future Together
Our vision and values are more than just words - they are our way forward.
We invite all members of the Worimi community and our partners to walk with
us as we build a strong, connected, and vibrant future for Aboriginal people.
