On Wednesday 13th November 1984, our founding members (listed above) gathered in a humble tin shed at the back of the Mallabula football oval. A defining moment that constituted the 1st official gathering and establishment (constituted in accordance with the provisions of the ALRA) of the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council (WLALC). The WLALC has and continues to administer the relevant provisions and functions as set out under the ALRA ‘Aims and Objectives’, which clearly define the services and standards our members, clients and broader community can expect.
The WLALC has remained focused on protecting and fostering the best interests of our community and Aboriginal culture. Our commitment continues as we work towards a future where the Aboriginal community proudly reconnects to culture, land, and one another. Through strong leadership and a dedicated Board structure, the WLALC ensures good governance, accountability, and the ongoing implementation of best business practices, policies, and procedures.
Today, the WLALC functions as an effective, self-sufficient community-based organisation, driven by its values of cultural identity, financial independence and self-determination. These principles remain at the core of our strategic direction, operations and advocacy.
