Our Members

Worimi LALC Members and the Aboriginal community are key to all that we do (and hope for) through the actions of the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council (WLALC).

What We Do For Our Members

A statutory body in accordance with the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, we advocate on behalf of Members across a number of disciplines, including but not limited to:

  • Land Rights and Protection:

LALCs are the primary bodies responsible for ‘best’ management, access and use of lands in NSW, with Members providing a valuable voice on decision-making processes, contributing to the discussion and ensuring the ‘best use’ outcomes are achieved, along with also ensuring that the protection of cultural values is preserved.

  • Cultural Preservation:

LALC’s plays a crucial role in maintaining and promoting Aboriginal culture and heritage and, Members have an opportunity to participate in cultural activities, language preservation programs, and heritage protection initiatives, strengthening and safeguarding cultural knowledge and traditions for current and future generations.

  • Community Empowerment:

As a community-based organisations; Members are encouraged and empowered to take control of their own affairs and make decisions on matters that affect them and the local Aboriginal community.

  • Access to Services and Resources:

Where available, we seek to provide access to services and resources, such as health and housing assistance, employment support, and training programs.  Members can facilitate and access these resources and opportunities, and support the LALC in securing allied services and other functions that support community development projects and empowerment.

  • Supporting Aspirations:

LALC’s have strong interests and aspirations in Aboriginal affairs and Members are encouraged to come alongside and advocate for their rights and interests and in essence, becoming a member of the WLALC is a way for Members to actively participate in the advancement of their community, ensuring the promotion, protection and fostering of the Aboriginal community is achieved.
